There is only one unit left in this SoHo development, Penthouse A, which is not only the ultimate residence but also houses the iconic architectural detail of this building, the brise soleil. A triplex penthouse apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows, three wood burning fireplaces, and three terraces brought to you by BKSK Architects and Studio DB. In fact, Studio DB brings some great design details to this project, especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. Located on the quieter side of Soho, One Vandam (at 180 Avenue of the Americas) is a block away from the trendy and popular Spring Street.
TRIPLE TREAT
This four bedroom 5-and-a-half bathroom triplex is composed of a main living area floor, a bedroom level, and an ultimate NYC entertainment floor with a roof terrace. The lower floor houses an open living/dining room and terrace layout with a semi-open kitchen that can be closed off via the custom blackened steel accented pocket doors. Studio DB has designed some unique, beautiful pocket doors. And the kitchen is even more fantastic. The kitchen can be defined as “cabinets galore” with a wall detail of pantry shelves and cabinets made of bleached solid walnut cabinetry with the recessed cut out pulls with Nanz polished nickel hardware.
Opposite this wall of cabinets is the faucet area and stove, both of which are framed out with the matching solid walnut of the cabinets. The upper cabinets have white matte lacquer finishes to match the Celador super white countertops and large center island. With the single slabbed Blue de Savoie marble backsplashes this makes for a soft, linear, warm, and inviting kitchen. There is even a nice pantry off the kitchen in the same design style, and both kitchen and pantry are windowed. The appliances are mostly Gaggeneau like the unique two-zoned wine refrigerator and a stainless steel Bertazzoni range.
A custom staircase across from the main entrance is another definitive design detail from Studio DB. Connecting all three floors, this staircase has triple-height glass which provides views galore towards the center of SoHo. Also impressive are the curved recessed design details on the face of the risers of the stairs which beautifully match the recessed pulls in the kitchen. There is also a private internal elevator servicing all three floors with access from the common hallway as well.
The master suite encompasses what a luxury penthouse should. An oversized bedroom with three exposures (and protected views), floor-to-ceiling windows, one of the three wood burning fireplaces, and overlooking the brise soleil. Right off this master bedroom is the master bath with a large floor to ceiling window centered behind an MTI floating soaking tub. Dolomite marble wainscoting abounds, and the large custom medicine cabinets and custom designed oxidized maple vanity with storage drawers are all beautiful.
INCREDIBLE FEATURES
But the wet room has even more. Not only is there a great niche factor, a marble bench, and steam shower but the designers went even further by installing two shower heads and three spray nozzles with a hand held fixture. Off this master bath is a private patio with a private staircase that leads to the top terrace with a sunken outdoor spa with wood surround. There is also a walk-in closet/dressing room adjacent to the master bath and private patio. This is definitive SoHo luxury living. The layout and flow of this space combined with the private patio leading up the top level show great design.
The top floor of this residence is an ultimate entertaining level. A second catering kitchen and entertaining den with floor to ceiling window walls open up to a large roof terrace with all four exposures of the city. There is plenty of space for dining, bbq’s, and entertainment. There is also a third wood burning fireplace and a sunken hot tub with an outdoor shower.
There are plenty of amenities at One Vandam including 24/7 doorman, full-time super and porter, a large fitness center with a private workout studio, laundry room, bike storage, and a great residents’ lounge with large screen television and catering kitchen. A unique amenity is the 6,400 square foot landscaped terrace designed by Matthew Nielson featuring a tree-lined footpath, sunning area, and entertaining space. It’s a very pleasant outdoor area for residents only. This building with the truly unique and spectacular penthouse is befitting of Soho.
