By Daniel J. Bollinger
Located on Billionaire’s Row is an incredible penthouse at 252 East 57th Street. Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill (SOM) LLP, co-developers World Wide Group and Rose Associates, and interior architect Daniel Romualdez have combined to give us a well-designed penthouse. And because it’s the only penthouse it occupies the entire top floor. This team has produced a magnificently designed penthouse with the right amount of luxury.
THE RESIDENCES
This 8,139-square-foot penthouse has six bedrooms, seven baths, 12’ 9” ceilings, and views from every corner. The area is so large that it is flexible; you have room to customize according to your style and wishes. In addition to a gas fireplace, there are two deep balconies with white oak floors, one off the living room, the second off the main bedroom. Most of the bedrooms have curved walls. These curves remove the square box feel of many condos making the space unique. All bedrooms feature en suite baths; the master bedroom has two. Five of the seven baths are windowed.
The master bath, custom-designed by Daniel Romualdez, features a beautiful wet room with two granite seating options, a significant niche factor, and a rain shower head with steam. Even the bathrooms have high ceilings. There is a great contrast of black and white. There are white Nano Glass walls and floors, especially against the side grain wood walnut vanity cabinets. The secondary baths deserve mention with white ceramic tile walls and a marble mosaic accent wall. Robern medicine cabinets are standard, and there is a nice shelf across the vanity. The tub is a 6’ bathtub designed by Romualdez.
The kitchen features a full Miele package with the most up-to-date appliances including a steam oven and micro-convection oven. The custom Eggersman kitchen, designed by Romualdez, features horizontal grain walnut wood integrated cabinets. The quartz counters and backsplashes, Dornbracht fixtures, and a Kohler Series sink complete the picture. There is a spacious breakfast nook built into the island and also a spacious wine refrigerator. Entertaining is easy thanks to a catering kitchen behind the formal kitchen with another full Miele package.
AMENITIES
You will find a host of the most luxurious amenities including a private lounge, library, dining room, sky lounge, billiards room, theater, and fitness facilities all located on three floors exclusively reserved for owners. The stand-out amenity is parking. 252 East 57th features a gated interior Porte Cochere with New York City’s most substantial residents-only automated parking garage and has electric car charging stations. Not just parking but the most advanced car park in New York City. A state of the art parking facility automatically parks your car for you. The car park is inside the building so whatever the weather you (and your car) will be protected from the elements as you come and go. There is even a waiting room for you while the automated machine retrieves your vehicle. The building has two lobbies, one inner lobby and one outer, both manned twenty-four hours a day.
