ZOMBIES ARE BACK -THRILL-SEEKERS BEWARE - THEY’RE SCARIER THAN EVER! Mind-Blowing Haunted House Takes Over Abandoned Toys R Us in Queens
By Lori Zelenko
Zombies Are Back - so prepare to squirm and scream, they are, we hear, more frightening than ever before. Last year, they were seriously scary. So this year be prepared - the horror is upon us just in time for Halloween! At an abandoned Toys R Us in Flushing the Zombies are taking over, occupying largest haunted attraction in Queens, all 50,000 square feet. Zombies however are not alone…Clowns, Crows and Super Scary Spooks will also be on board to thrill and chill all who dare to enjoy this dare we say - mind-blowing? - experience. Zombie Super Scare rocked last year, or so our coterie of hard core haunted house fans told us, but this year creator, owner and manager Luke Tinari is upping his game. High-powered props will jolt those who wander the aisles at this cavernous Toys ‘R’ Us at 30-02 Whitestone Expy. 10,000 visitors are forecast. Don’t wait until Halloween eve to get your tickets, the nights of insane entertainment are likely to sell out! There’s innovative out-of-the-coffin choreography and truly terrifying Zombie-friendly surprises enacted by actors and actresses who are pros at the horror game. Thrill-seekers beware…this is no ordinary haunted house…
Fear the living dead indeed…You’ll find them in The Zombie Swamp, The Clown Room and “The Upside Down” from Stranger Things, which is new for this horrifically haunted season. Once you’ve run the gauntlet and had your share of ghoulish encounters, it’s a welcome relief to play fun zombie-themed games and grab refreshments at the snack station - perfect to soothe that scream-scratched throat.
So, we have to ask, what prompted the Zombies return? They couldn’t stay buried for another Halloween? They had to rejoin the living? And bring us a night of absolute terror we’ll relish until next October? “I saw that the community absolutely loved it and we wanted to do it another year,” said Tinari. “From ages 13 [and] up, it’s just something to do, something other than going to a bar. It’s just a great activity.”
The Zombie Super Scare is open Sept. 27 to Nov. 2 on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 to 11 p.m. and Sundays and Thursdays from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be extended Halloween hours from Oct. 26 to Nov. 2.
Tickets are available at zombiesrback.com. Tickets cost: $25 for visitors 14 and up and $23 for students of all ages.
The Zombies Super Scare location is 30-02 Whitestone Expy, Flushing 11354
