INTO THE WOODS
Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods weaves together many famous fairy tales in an allegorical story of family, love, growing up, and the hazy areas between right and wrong. This critically acclaimed production was captured live at London’s Regent’s Park open-air theater and was directed by Timothy Sheader. It won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and features Hannah Waddingham as the Witch and Jenna Russell as the Baker’s Wife, among many other standout performances.
THE GERSHWIN’S PORGY & BESS
The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess debuted at San Francisco Opera with bass-baritone Eric Owens as Porgy and soprano Laquita Mitchell as Bess. Both singers made their role debuts in this production, which tells the turbulent story of a disabled man, the headstrong woman he loves, and the rural African-American community in coastal South Carolina that sustains them both.
CAROUSEL
Kelli O’Hara and Nathan Gunn lead the New York Philharmonic’s glorious concert staging of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s beloved musical. Time Magazine hailed this classic as “the best musical of the 20th Century.” The musical includes such highlights as “If I Loved You,” “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over,” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
