MvVO ART announced the annual AD ART SHOW 2021’s return to the monumental screens inside the Oculus at the Westfield World Trade Center in New York on May 1st through 30th. Hosting the virtual opening at 4 pm on May 3rd will be guest artist Chad Smith—Red Hot Chili Peppers, Grammy Award-winning drummer, and fine artist—during Frieze week. Chad Smith’s artworks will be exhibited on the monumental screens of the Oculus the final weekend of May 29th and 30th.
Maria van Vlodrop, MvVO ART’s founder and CEO, recently told us, “Chad Smith’s North American fine art tour, presented by Road Show Company, has been extraordinary. We’re honored to feature him as a guest artist of MvVO AD ART SHOW 2021 in partnership with NBCUniversal, our returning presenting sponsor. We are also excited that Chad supports AD ART SHOW and look forward to presenting his art alongside our talented artists.”
A BRIGHTER FUTURE
Last year’s pandemic changed how people view things, their work habits, and their overall lifestyle. The AD ART SHOW was one of the few events to happen due to the all-digital format’s uniqueness. Last year was a success; this year looks to be more successful for the AD ART SHOW now that the Oculus will be filled with more downtown workers and tourists and will have more eyes on the artwork.
The unique AD ART SHOW experience brings art directly to people—transforming an advertising platform into a gallery space in the middle of the iconic architectural achievement--the Oculus by Santiago Calatrava, all while revolutionizing the route that leads artists from underground buzz to recognition. The show launched in 2018 at Sotheby’s New York and moved to the all-digital platform at the Oculus in 2019. Now in its fourth year, AD ART SHOW continues to innovate and expand opportunities for artists.
The artists of AD ART SHOW have a background in advertising/design and related fields. They are following famous artists like Andy Warhol, Rene Magritte, Keith Haring, who also had a commercial practice. Historically some artists have made the leap, but the barriers persist, and AD ART SHOW throws the doors open for these talented artists with direct connections to the art world. Additionally, AD ART SHOW provides organizations with an art platform to discover and celebrate their artists.
While most of New York’s famous art institutions are reopening with limited capacity and timed ticketing, AD ART SHOW at the Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center offers art lovers a spacious, free art destination. It will be open Mondays through Saturdays, 11 am to 7 pm; Sundays, noon – 6 pm. During May, AD ART SHOW visitors are offered a free sweet and a coffee from show partner Eataly, located on the third level.
AND THE WINNERS…
The selection committee narrowed down their final seven artists, and the three winners of this year’s show have been selected. The top three finalists are Jessica Alazraki, who received the most votes and will be honored with a Clio in Contemporary Art and a Creative Immersion Day at NBCUniversal. Rounding out the winners are Chanell Angeli and Hyun Jung Ji. Other finalists included Marco Gallotta, Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic, Stevenson Michel, and Michael Wente.
