Luxury architecture and design firm DXA Studio provides a rare balance of expertly crafted design with technical proficiency. Established in 2011, DXA has expertise spanning a full spectrum of services and project categories, including multi- and single-family residential, commercial, institutional, and hotel design.

Co-Founders Jordan Rogove and Wayne Norbeck established DXA studio a decade ago to create a distinct identity, clarity, and ingenuity design process. But designing is just one of this team’s talents. Both Rogove and Norbeck are also in the final drafting stages of their new book, set to release this year, that touches upon the deep, inextricable relationship between the unique past and future potential of architecture that defines DXA’s practice.

DXA has recently emphasized health and well-being through architectural design at projects like the Maverick in Chelsea, a 20-story tall luxury residential building that incorporates biophilic elements throughout. The firm is also the architect for The Rowan, the most significant new residential project in Astoria, featuring a glass lobby with a green roof surrounded by a landscaped entrance plaza and private garden.

PRESERVING THE PAST
Previously, DXA worked on the interiors—including residential, lobby, and amenity spaces—for one building within the celebrated Essex Crossing development. The design merges the gritty quality of the Lower East Side neighborhood and the stark contemporary facade with an elegant and refined luxury residential experience.

DXA works closely with the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) on many complex projects through the belief and passion that preserving the past creates value for the future. It notably designed 827-831 Broadway, a commercial, landmarked restoration project in lower Manhattan that once housed Willem De Kooning, master of Abstract Expressionism.

At 49 Greene, a six-story building in the Soho Cast-Iron District, DXA received unanimous approval from the LPC to restore the building’s existing storefront and facade, construct a new roof, install a new penthouse addition on top, and reimagine the interior layouts of each floor.

A LOOK TO THE FUTURE
As for the future of New York City, DXA has big plans. Rogove and Norbeck see silver linings to the pandemic, with public spaces coming out as the next big trend. With the city reclaiming outdoor space to pedestrians and cyclists over automobiles, the firm is gearing up for the streets to be vitalized like never before.

DXA incorporated this prediction into “The Great Bridge,” its reimagining of the Brooklyn Bridge, a design that yields an experience that is more accessible, safe, democratic, and enjoyable for all. The design won top honors in many acclaimed competitions, including the Architect’s Newspaper Awards and the American Institute of Architects New York State Awards.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Rogove and Norbeck are also gearing up for growth in affordable housing due to the recent and ongoing social justice awakening. With an increase in developer interest to work on these projects, they are excited for New York City to see a more equal, affordable, and diverse future.

DXA is involved in numerous projects that explore modular construction and is currently working on a significant, multi-building development in Washington, D.C., where the firm is master planning a neighborhood from the ground up.

Over the past several years, they have served as Visiting Professors of Practice for the School of Architecture + Design at their alma mater Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where they are actively involved in teaching and mentoring the architects of tomorrow
