STARBUCKS RESERVE ROASTERY
Coffee Lovers Rejoice
So, you love coffee. And not just any coffee. You love specialty coffees, single-origin coffees, unique blends, and rare beans freshly roasted. So, you’re not a coffee snob—but you are passionate about your cup o’ joe.
The perfect coffee shop for you? Starbucks. No, not one of the ubiquitous stores serving its signature brews across the globe. We’re talking about the truly unique coffee experience of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery NYC.
AN IMMERSIVE JOURNEY
The Starbucks Reserve Roastery is an inspiring coffee extravaganza in the heart of New York’s vibrant meatpacking district. Opened in December 2018, the Reserve Roastery is one of six Reserve Roasteries globally. Aside from New York City, others include Chicago, Seattle, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Milan. The Reserve Roastery is a workshop and stage creating an immersive journey into the coffee industry.
You can order your favorite classic coffee drink or an exclusive Roastery Creation at the Main Bar, beautifully crafted of walnut that is as stunning as it is functional. However, coffee lovers may want to proceed to the lower level to the Experience Bar for a more profound sensory experience. Here you can fully explore the coffee experience with various brew methods and origin-driven storytelling. Interaction with the baristas, master roasters, and mixologists is highly encouraged. First, talk with one of the baristas for suggestions about what Starbucks Reserve coffee you want to try—a signature reserve blend or a rare single-origin coffee. Then discuss which brewing method might be best: a pour-over, a French press, a syphon, the Clover Brewing, Chemex, or cold brew.
RARE COFFEES
Consider one of the Roastery’s Coffee Experiences. The Origin Flight offers three different reserve coffees prepared on the Clover brewer. The Brew Comparison Flight has one coffee brewed by two methods, providing a palate-expanding experience for any aspiring coffee aficionado. Cold-brew fans have plenty of choices, including a Draft Nitro Cold Brew, a Cold Brew Trio Flight with three different flavors, and a very intriguing Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew made with Guatemalan beans aged in whiskey barrels. Enhance your coffee experience by adding a selection of chocolate truffles.
The Reserve Roastery features an exclusive selection of the rarest, most extraordinary coffees Starbucks has to offer. Master Roasters develop a unique roast for each lot of green beans, then experiment with the coffee, brewing, aging, infusing, and blending it into imaginative and often surprising creations. The Reserve Roasteries serve as a pipeline for new products and designs that can eventually make their way to the retail Starbucks stores. But, of course, you don’t have to wait for that. Customers can visit the Scooping Bar to take home bags of some of the 14 rotating, freshly roasted coffees.
BAKED GOODS & COCKTAILS
Also featured exclusively at the Roastery are a selection of artisanal baked goods, salads, and desserts created by Princi, the exclusive food purveyor for Starbucks Reserve Roasteries founded by Rocco Princi in Milan. A perfect complement to your coffee choice is a Princi Cornetto, light and buttery, soft yet flaky baked item like a croissant. In addition, the entire menu offers a selection of Princi-designed breakfast items, sandwiches, pizzas, desserts, and pastries.
On the mezzanine level, visitors will find the Arriviamo Bar, an exquisite 60-foot long mixology bar featuring an assortment of traditional and unique cocktails ranging from classics to coffee- and tea-inspired creations. “Arriviamo” is Italian for “we have arrived,” and indeed, customers will feel that they have arrived at their Third Place--that welcoming place between home and work.
A delicious example of a coffee-inspired cocktail is the Roastery Old Fashioned crafted with Starbucks Reserve® Cold Brew and Iwai Tradition Whisky. Or try the Final Say (Arriviamo’s riff on the prohibition-era classic Last Word cocktail) made with Matcha and El Tesoro Blanco Tequila.
Can’t decide which cocktail creation to try? Try the Cocktail Bar Trio, a one-on-one cocktail sample tasting led by a master mixologist. Sample three signature Roastery cocktails infused with Starbucks Reserve coffee, tea, and exotic ingredients.
THE FRESH AROMA
The New York Roastery features the largest fully-operational coffee roasting plant in Manhattan, roasting more than 1.5 million pounds of coffee per year. Centrally located in the facility is the Roasting Area, where Master Roasters ply their craft. Visitors can observe the process and interact with the roasters. In addition, each Roastery features a custom cask. The one in New York is a 30-foot sleek, hammered copper cask in the shape of the iconic Starbucks coffee mug. Each Roastery also features a unique art piece depicting the Siren’s iconic logo. The New York Siren is a 10-foot, 2,000-pound copper creation designed to appear as emerging from the water.
A VIBRANT NEIGHBORHOOD
Locating the Roastery in the Meatpacking District is a perfect addition to the inspiration and vibrancy of the area’s attractions such as the High Line, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Chelsea Market, and the many hip restaurants and high-end retail shops. The Roastery’s design is sleek yet practical. Located on the street level of a new, geometrically-intriguing building on Ninth Avenue, the Roastery’s ceiling reflects the building’s design with an “undulating ocean” of squares and rectangles.
The ceiling also features a network of twisting “symphony pipes” through which the freshly roasted beans travel (making the tinkling sounds of rain along the way).
As both a workshop and a stage, the Roastery enhances the coffee lover’s immersive experience with in-depth tours by reservation only.
