WEEKEND GETAWAY

A Visit To Stroudsmoor Country Inn

By Jeff & Stephanie Sylva

Nestled in the Pocono Mountains of eastern Pennsylvania, just a two-hour drive from Manhattan, is a boutique country inn resort offering an ideal getaway opportunity for anyone looking to enjoy great food, intimate accommodations, and picturesque mountain vistas in a serene natural location. The Stroudsmoor Country Inn, with its welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff, is the result of the Pirone family’s commitment to providing Old World hospitality with quality, courtesy, and outstanding service.

The Pirone family’s dream began in 1984 with their purchase of the Stroudsmoor Country Inn, which included a variety of buildings in addition to the main inn and an in-ground pool on 150 acres. The facility had operated as a three-month summer resort since the 1930s. The Pirones enhanced the Stroudsmoor experience by adding a full-service restaurant in the main inn; a social cocktail lounge; an indoor pool, a whirlpool spa, and a fitness room in the beautifully designed Natatorium. A variety of attractive rooms, junior and luxury suites; several beautiful banquet facilities; and an additional 50 acres, including some outstanding mountain views, were also added.

ACCOMMODATIONS
A total of 66 lodging options in 22 buildings gives guests many choices. Stroudsmoor’s charming Main Inn, built at the turn of the century in a colonial style, houses a reception desk, two dining rooms, a lounge, and 15 guest rooms, each with a private bath, and some original turn-of-the-century furnishings. To accommodate larger families, The Cottages feature spacious porches for gathering and adjoining doors. A more luxurious experience can be found in the Ledgemere Suites providing king-size mansion beds, Italian marble baths with whirlpool tubs, living rooms with fireplaces, a wet bar, a private balcony, and a loft. Need even more space? The Cabins on the Common are a collection of one, two, and three-bedroom suites, replete with living rooms for entertainment, individual climate control, a wet bar, entertainment centers, and a deluxe bath, some with whirlpool tub.

DINING
Breakfast each morning is included with your stay. The main dining option, SCI: The Restaurant at Stroudsmoor Country Inn, serves traditional fare and signature cuisine in a beautiful setting. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including special-themed evenings. Seafood lovers celebrate every Friday night with the Festa di Mare… Feast of the Sea buffet. Every Saturday evening, The Grand Buffet serves a bountiful feast featuring Tenderloin of Beef. Sunday evenings feature the American Harvest Buffet with traditional favorites. In addition, the famous Champagne and Caviar Brunch takes center stage on Sunday mornings.

A more casual option for dining is the Mahogany Lounge, which offers a variety of soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and hearty entrees. In addition, the lounge offers a Prime Rib of Beef dinner on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Seek a comfortable spot to enjoy an early morning cup of coffee and a freshly baked treat in the Breezeway, which connects the inn to the Natatorium, or in the Lobby next to the cozy fireplace.

The Stroudsmoor Inn Towne Bakery & Cafe is less than a mile from the inn. In addition to many of the inn’s favorite recipes, the cafe offers delicious sandwiches, Italian specialty bread, and homemade salads for dining at the café or take-out. A variety of signature sauces and soups, entrée selections, and classic quiches and pot pies can be found here as well. These items are ready for travel and can be quickly thawed and heated as a main dish or prepared as a component of your favorite recipes. And the baked goods are nothing short of amazing.
