STRONG WOMEN

NYAD
PG-13
Put together a crowd of Academy Award winners and nominees, and the result is Nyad, the true-life story of Diana Nyad’s epic swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage—when she was 64 years old. Four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening stars in this epic sports drama, along with two-time winner Jodie Foster, and is led by directors Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Oscar winners for Best Documentary). With this pedigree, can more nominations be far behind?

THE ROYAL HOTEL

We love three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner in almost anything she does (Ozark, Inventing Anna). So, when she went to Australia to shoot The Royal Hotel, it was no-brainer to check out. A dark fact-based tale of two young women’s experience while backpacking in the Outback, this one will keep you guessing as it unspools.

TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR

She’s a force of nature, so it’s no surprise that Taylor Swift is upending the traditional movie distribution model for her concert film, going directly through the theaters and bypassing the studios. As a result, it has already amassed millions of dollars in presales and continues to make Swift the biggest profits rainmaker for businesses as her epic tour continues to make an incredible impact wherever it goes. Plus, this one’s an excellent substitute if you couldn’t get tickets to her live shows.

TOUGH MEN WOMEN

THE KILLER
R
Pair up three-time Oscar-nominated director David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac, Gone Girl) with two-time nominee Michael Fassbender and the result is The Killer. A dark psychological thriller that explores a professional assassin’s descent into madness, this quintessential film noir is already racking up accolades at international film festivals as it heads for its USA theatrical release in time for Academy Awards consideration.

KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON
R
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro? Okay, we’re in. Add into that fascinating triumvirate of towering cinematic talent the incredible true story of greed and murder in 1920s Oklahoma on the Osage Indian reservation (based on the David Grann nonfiction best-seller), and this is one movie that every cinephile cannot wait to see in theaters. Lily Gladstone, Oscar nominees John Lithgow and Jesse Plemons, and 2023 Best Actor Oscar winner Brendan Fraser round out the stellar cast.
