BIOPICS ABOUT VERY DIFFERENT MEN

BECOMING KARL LAGERFELD
Hulu
You know Daniel Bruhl from movies like Rush, Inglourious Basterds, and Captain designer Karl Lagerfeld as he came to fame in the 1970s. This miniseries is filled with passion, fashion, and the gay aesthete of those wild times in France and beyond. With real-life characters like Yves Saint-Laurent, Andy Warhol, and Paloma Picasso, this look at that combustible time is sure to fascinate fashionistas of today.

CLIPPED
FX/Hulu
This messy biopic tale follows the life of billionaire attorney Donald Sterling, who bought the L.A. Clippers NBA basketball team in 1981 and lost it in disgrace in 2014, when his racist feelings became public knowledge via one of his mistresses. Three-time Emmy winner Ed O’Neill takes on the role of the now-90-year-old Sterling, while two-time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver plays his wife Shelly; Laurence Fishburne, also an Oscar nominee, plays Black American Doc Rivers, who was the Clippers coach at the time. It is a sordid story, well told.

CRIMINAL TYPES

PRESUMED INNOCENT
Apple TV+
David E. Kelley’s newest series based on the Scott Turow novel stars Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal as a Chicago prosecutor accused of the murder of a female colleague (played by Renee Reinsve). As a complex web of lies and betrayal unfolds, it is hard to guess who really dunit. Costarring Ruth Negga, another Oscar nominee, as well as Peter Sarsgaard (Jake’s real-life brother-in-law), this one is a real crime thriller, the thing Kelley does best.

TRIGGER WARNING
Netflix
Jessica Alba stars in her first film in five years, a Netflix original all about a US Special Forces expert who returns home to find all hell breaking loose around her father’s bar. She has got the military fighting chops to defend her family in this action thriller to her Dark Angel roots.

DRAGONS RETURN!
