FIGHT NIGHT:
THE MILLION DOLLAR HEIST
Peacock
Return to 1970, as Muhammad Ali stages a comeback fight against Jerry Qualley in Atlanta, after three years away from the boxing ring. But this six-part series isn’t a prizefighting saga at all. Instead, it’s all about the massive heist that also took place that night after the fight at a party hosted by Gordon “Chicken Man” Williams. Kevin Hart goes dramatic as Williams, with Don Cheadle as the Atlanta police detective assigned to solve the outrageous robbery, in this fascinating true-crime tale. Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, and Terrence Howard co-star.
HIGH POTENTIAL
ABC
Kaitlin Olsen (The Mick) returns to network prime time in this whodunit series as a single mother with a mind for crime. She’s cleaning the police station when her intellectual gifts are uncovered, which leads her to a much better gig, as a consultant to the force. She’s full of witty banter as she teams up with a police detective (Daniel Sunjata) to match wits with canny criminals, in this spinoff of a popular French TV show.
JOAN
The CW
Based on the real-life of 1980s jewel thief Joan Hannington, this fascinating series follows her exciting capers across Britain’s wealthiest denizens. You’ll barely recognize Sophie Turner, who’s best known as Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones, as she transforms into the many disguises that Hannington used to pull off her daring heists. From her hair to her clothes to her accent, everything switches up as she morphs into the thief eventually known as “The Godmother.” Frank Dillane co-stars.
MOONFLOWER MURDERS
PBS
Lovers of Magpie Murders, rejoice! For Lesley Manville is back, starring in this next mystery based on the Anthony Horowitz best-selling books that follow the dual adventures of editor Susan Ryeland and detective Atticus Pünd. Susan now lives in Greece, but a new mystery draws her back to Britain in a complex tale that also stars Timothy McMullan, Mark Gatiss, and other familiar faces from the wonderful first series that also aired on PBS’s Masterpiece.
THE PERFECT COUPLE
Netflix
Nicole Kidman joins up with Liev Schreiber as The Perfect Couple in this series based on the romance novel by Elin Hilderbrand and set in among the wealthy denizens of Nantucket. When their “perfect” family’s wedding goes haywire with murder, disappearances, and other mysterious happenings, the plot thickens in this slightly soapy drama. Look for Dakota Fanning Eve Hewson, and Jack Reynor, who populate this dark tale of beautiful people doing bad things.
