TODD “TJ” STEIN

UES Community Advocate Launches Campaign for District Leader

By John Dake

Todd “TJ” Stein, a dedicated advocate and native resident of the Upper East Side, is thrilled to confirm his intent to run again for District Leader of Assembly District 76, Part A, in the 2025 election. With deep roots in the community, Stein is eager to bring his passion and advocacy to the district.

Stein resides in the Upper East Side building where he was raised and has lived since the early 1970s. He was educated in local public schools and inspired by his mother, a trailblazer who championed public school funding in the 1970s. Her efforts, including organizing charity fashion shows for causes like City of Hope and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, instilled in Stein a lifelong dedication to community service.

COMMUNITY FIRST
Despite challenges in the 2023 election cycle, when procedural issues prevented him from appearing on the ballot, Stein remains steadfast in his commitment to help the community. His motivation stems from mobilizing friends, family, and neighbors to engage in the community and address its needs actively.

Stein’s advocacy work includes passing a recent resolution for The Fair Pay for Home Care Act at a local Democratic Club, where he’s a member of the Seniors Working Group. He also appeared on Spectrum NY1’s In Focus with Cheryl Wills to discuss aging in place and the challenges older adults face in remaining in their homes, especially related to homecare. He’s enjoyed volunteering at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House and for Bike NY.

He served as a Judicial Delegate for the past two years, reflecting his dedication to fair and just representation within the judicial system. His efforts highlight his commitment to improving the lives of community members and supporting vulnerable populations.

LOCAL SUPPORT
In July, Stein celebrated his birthday at The Townhouse of New York (pictured left), where he was joined by a host of elected officials, including Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright, Council Members Keith Powers, Erik Bottcher, Lynn Schulman, and State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal. The celebration underscored Stein’s solid connections and respect within the political community.

Looking ahead, Stein is excited to embrace the role of District Leader by focusing on grassroots organizing and voter mobilization. He plans to work closely with local party members to increase voter registration and turnout, ensuring the voices of the Upper East Side residents are heard. He also actively advocates for policies that reflect the community’s priorities.

“I am excited to run for District Leader and continue advocating for the Upper East Side. My lifelong connection to this community fuels my determination to ensure our voices are heard,” Stein shared.

As the publisher of a popular free Newsletter, Stein keeps residents informed about local events, serving as a valuable resource for his neighbors. His recent appointment to Community Board 8 has deepened his understanding of the district’s needs.

With a focus on community engagement, protecting the rights of small businesses, clean and safer streets, and advocating for residents’ needs, Stein is committed to bringing dedicated leadership and awareness to the role of District Leader.
