Tell us a little about your early life and what sparked your interest in makeup artistry.
I was born in the Dominican Republic; I grew up seeing my mother getting ready to go to work at a bank. It was required that she look a certain way. So, I felt like I was watching my own fashion show every morning. The minute I saw the power of transformation, I was hooked and never looked back.

How did your education shape your career?
Education and training gave me the confidence to show up or submit for big jobs even when I still didn’t have an extensive resume. It is because of all my training under these prestigious academies. Producers, directors, and fashion designers also gave me a chance when I was still very new.

You have a distinctive makeup style. How would you describe it?
Corrective-natural makeup. While I love creating a “look,” my work thrives on creating balance on the face. My gift is to bring out your best natural self through makeup. On older clients, I’m able to create the illusion of a facelift with just paint and powder, correcting loss of volume and softening the look of the aging process. Natural beauty is my Sweet Spot!

What are some of your favorite techniques or products?
I love working on a very wet face. It never shocks the model or actress but always stuns other makeup artists. I just like the way it binds everything together. It’s taken me years to perfect my wet technique.

What is your philosophy when it comes to makeup and beauty?
Beauty is the key to getting anything you want out of your life, personal or professional. I’m not talking about physical beauty but the discipline you must have for the rest of your life to do your best to display your best to the world. This action alone will open more doors and bring you more of what you want.

How do you feel your work has influenced the makeup industry?
There is a very distinct line in the industry between people who do “fashion” makeup and “film” makeup. I think I have been a great example of how you can do both well and be successful doing both as long as you have a good system in place.

You’ve achieved so much. Are there any other plans?
My vision is to create a Beauty Club, a haven where you can address all your beauty needs under one roof, guided by the best in the business. It’s a concept that draws inspiration from the legendary Spas of the ‘60s and ‘70s, and one that I’m excited to bring to life.

Do you have any final words of advice for aspiring makeup artists?
Learn from your clients; don’t just provide a service. As you rise, you get to be in rooms with brilliant people who have done extraordinary things. Listen and ask questions. This is your education.
